Who am I and What is This Blog about?

My blog is a space for me to jot down all of the health, fitness, food, running, and Mom tips that have helped me in my life and will hopefully be able to help others too. This is also where I plan to journal my training and, hopefully my eventual success, as I attempt to run 40 miles on my 40th birthday this year. In addition to training for my big run, I want to share some of my favorite recipes (which happen to be mostly plant-based), offer tips to getting and staying fit (including pre & post-natal), provide motivational messages geared towards goals (like running races or training for athletic endeavors), and whatever else comes along that I deem worthy of sharing with the world.

But before I begin, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Lindsay. I’m a mom of 2, a military spouse, a fitness instructor, a runner, and a novice ‘healthy’ foodie. My love of running began early, around age 9 or 10, because my father was a longtime track and cross country coach. I didn’t run for my university, but I did complete my first marathon during those years, as I studied Sports Communication and PE. After college, I married my fighter pilot husband and worked as a personal trainer amongst the troops on the bases where we lived. My love of fitness grew out of my exposure to these inspiring and motivated individuals, including the spouses who were by far the strongest group of women I’ve ever encountered. After my son was born, I was desperate to get running and fit again and found my new city’s Stroller Strides. Finding this group changed my life. I didn’t know how to get out of the house with a newborn, let alone get my blood pumping and work on losing the baby weight. Together with other like-minded moms, I knew that I had found something pretty special. I started teaching Stroller Strides when my son was just under a year old and am currently a certified SS teacher, although in a new city and with my youngest child in the stroller. My other current gig is at a studio called Shred415, a unique, one-of-a-kind, interval training class in St. Louis. Besides my teaching gigs, I’m also training for my 16th marathon this year and a 40 mile run on my 40th birthday. Wish me luck!

The other aspect of myself that I’d like to share is that I have evolved into a flexitarian foodie, of sorts.  Cooking and baking healthy versions of the foods that I love has become a passion of mine. You might notice that I don’t choose to eat meat and that I try to limit dairy. Over the years, I’ve tried all of the major diet fads for various reasons, but the only one that actually  made me healthier and happier, without feeling like I was missing something, was when I ate vegan. I’ve read up on it, asked health professionals, and watched way too many documentaries to forget, that I now know about meat and the meat industry. However, I promise not to dwell on my feelings towards this matter, only to provide you with delicious and nutritious recipes that are a hit with me and my family.

My other interests might pop-up on my blog from time to time too. I love to stay current on health and beauty, fashion, and interior design topics, and probably a handful of other topics as well. I figure that if I can get it all down on my blog, then I won’t need to keep it all swimming around in my head for oblivion.

Finally, I need to point out that I’m not a doctor, nutritionist, or professional writer. I’m just me. So please, before trying out any of my fitness, running, or diet-related advice, consult your physician to make sure that you’re doing what’s right for you. For the writing, please forgive any grammatical errors and rambling (as I’m currently exhibiting) as I get it all out of my head and onto the screen.

Thanks for reading! Now, let’s get this thing started!!
